When I first got in hell, I had two younger roommates, both from the future. They loved those things. It was some sort of knock-off of course, but I stole some for Nekane one time because they said it was the only thing that would get them to crawl out from under the bed and let me fix their wings. Got to try a piece.
[Confirmed, teenage boys and Nekane love poptarts.]
They told me they're late twenty-something but I don't think they actually know. They like to burrow. I asked them where they got that instinct from that same day but they just said it's how they are. Under the bed, closet, wherever's small and enclosed without being pitch black. Which is how the fort was born. No more being stupid with the wings. Hypothetically.
I did wonder sometimes. I think I said something like that, how when I was a kid, I tried to get to the top of every building, get up somewhere I couldn't be overlooked or forgotten. I wondered why they wouldn't want to just fly away from everything. But I guess the obvious answer is that it didn't work and hiding was the best way to watch their back, especially when there wasn't another option anymore. But that's getting into the bad stuff again. In any case, making the fort is nice. It's kind of fun and it makes things feel more like home wherever we end up.
yeah that's a super bummer a fort sounds right up the Rivera alley though I did wonder what was up with that when I was there but assuming they sleep there, what about you? there was only one bed and it was made don't tell me you're a weirdo that actually makes beds
Is it weird to make beds? [Why is it weird to make beds? Modern people baffle him.] But, well, I don't sleep well, honestly. Neither of us does, for obvious reasons, but I also got used to just crashing wherever or sleeping in a hammock when I lived in shantytown. I keep falling asleep at the table or on the couch or just on top of the covers.
I forgot I didn't tell you about Teto but it's fucking complicated man so it makes sense I skipped it you adopted a fairy and they made a memory of you come to life and now he's a person that's also like your son?
dude I'm from Oklahoma I don't know shit about this fey stuff the fairy's name is Mili and they look like Teto's twin Teto came to the school after you and Coco went back home and I went with him to get his ears pierced for his birthday and he can phase through walls like a ghost???
I know less than you do! My world's supposed to be normal!
[But yes, okay, he's going to properly read this through. It doesn't get less alarming.]
Wow I
Wow. I don't know what to think about that.
The least confusing thing in there is the ear-piercing.
[There's a long pause.]
...Do I... are there others? Not necessarily children just family, you know? If there's family even if they'll never know me I want to at least know their names.
Tío Felipe and tío Oscar live with you I never met Coco's grandparents or nothing but you weren't exactly their ideal marriage candidate love Coco though obviously I think Coco will probably stay instead of moving out when she old enough for that
[He'd point out that Cliff's world clearly has magic but... for once he's gonna let it slide.]
Okay.
Okay. Nobody I don't know about. Yeah, I didn't make Imelda's parents too happy either. She threw everything away for me. Living with her brothers sounds fun though. I loved those kids.
[There's another pause.]
I never knew their names. None of the ones from after I died. When Imelda showed up she sent me away so many times I just stopped coming back eventually. And it wasn't like I didn't know there were others there later, in her shop. It just didn't occur to me until Miguel that they had anything to do with me. Stupid, right? I never got the chance to ask their names. I had to make a deal with a demon in order to find out.
So. Mili and Teto. Do they seem alright? Taken care of? Happy?
[He said supposed to be!!!! Never mind the version of his world where he could turn into a wolf for as long as he could remember, because obviously weird shit didn't happen in that world, either.]
yeah I mean Coco and Teto are my age so you can't expect much about future generations
[He almost makes a comment how if he were able to marry Coco, they wouldn't have been able to have a biological kid. Almost. But that's way too weird, and way too involved in weird werewolf shit he wants to keep a lid on.]
Milagros I think is the full name yeah they do they have a good family sometimes Teto is like you know but I think he'll be okay and you told me something about how Mili didn't think about shit like if anybody would hate them they were pretty weird but a good kid for as much a kid some ancient fey can be I don't know a lot about it except they don't like cats but carry one around that's in a coma or something according to Coco and had glow in the dark stars we decorated Teto's room with
I think I can imagine what Teto's like maybe he'll figure things out faster than I did. Would have to help not having Ernesto to follow around all the time. And having a real family instead of one he has to work for.
The rest of that is confusing again, but, the stars sound nice. Like sleeping out in the plaza, in Santa Cecilia. I used to do that all the time when I had nowhere else to go. But I guess you knew that.
I'd sure as hell like to think I'm a better older friend than de la Cruz that guy was a piece of shit
yep pretty much but you know he did the same thing once at school and became a popsicle to avoid me probably ruined any good that did him by climbing in his window to talk about shit
He was. But it was hard to see that until it was too late. He was good at making people feel like they were everything, especially when they didn't have much else.
[And then quickly making them feel like they were nothing. But Cliff already knows that part.]
Nice to know he has better.
I wouldn't worry too much about ruining anything. If he was that cold, he'd have come back earlier. We're not very cold tolerant. And whatever reason he had to avoid you well he's too forgiving. I was too forgiving. But you're a good enough kid that it was probably him that owed the apology anyway. And if not, I trust it wasn't anything too serious.
yeah that whole too forgiving thing means you shouldn't assume it was him that fucked up
[Why is Héctor like this!!!]
you know I get mad and pop off he was trying to look out for me and wound up putting himself down in the process when I brushed him off he's the good kid
I didn't. I said, "if not". But even if I hadn't, just because I was too forgiving doesn't mean I didn't make plenty of mistakes on my own. I've never been the good kid. I'm going off what I know about me.
you ever figure it’s because you were told shit like that all the time that you came up with that like what was the point just do whatever not saying you didn’t make trouble but you didn’t go messing around the way my friends and I do
What? You mean like stealing, drinking, causing small catastrophes? No, I think I just wanted things I didn't have and didn't have the sense to think ahead.
alright funny guy well I'm getting away with it longer in ways you never could you've never outran a police car have you? anyway my point is that if I'm supposed to be a good kid then Teto is, too

what's the point if you don't have someone nagging you about it
oh there was some kind

Teto had one of those so I got the bed when we were visiting Santa Cecilia
what the fuck don't fall asleep at the table though
the other stuff is fine
