[There's a faint laugh shy of a sob. For the first time, it sounds like there's a smile in his voice.]
Dios, please, don't tease me like that. I haven't wanted a drink so bad since I was alive. I'd do anything to just think a little less. A little of what you have would be a bloody miracle.
Yes. Yes, please. Whatever the hell you want for it, I'll give it.
Wait, you want to drink? [ hold the fUCK up ] I can do that! Can I assume that tequila's off the table?
[ there's noise in the background now: Garrett rustling around, packing up various substances, snacks, grabbing random shit like decks of cards and dice. ]
Oh and- the mabari have to come. They haven't left my sight in days. Very clingy.
[ Protective. He hasn't done his usual thrice-daily runs with the dogs out in the suburb, either. ]
No. No, Garret. Just because I want to stop thinking doesn't mean I can make myself drink. Especially not now. Just... just the smokes. Please.
The dogs are fine. Bring them as you like. Let me just... let me just let Nekane know you're coming. We don't need surprises. Don't... don't go until I know what they say.
[There's a terrible noise. It's the distinct sound of someone in pain trying to move. And then hobble. The noise fades out with the clicking of a door. When he comes back, it'll probably be with Nekane's agreement.]
[ that sound makes him wince. Maker, his magic might not outright banish post-death sickness but he's at least going to offer them both a chance at some relief. It kills him to hear the pain in that voice and imagine the weight on that young frame.]
Héctor, dear, you do know that offering something doesn't mean I'm going to force it down- force it on you? [ Ha ha he's never using that turn of phrase again ] Just the smokes for you.
Alright. Give me a bit, I'm stopping for some good snacks. If you've got any requests, text me in the next few minutes.
[With that they hang up, and Garrett packs up some shit: a bottle of something-or-other in case Nekane needs to drink, his magnificently long pipe (that's a smoking pipe, you deviants), pot, tobacco, some snacks, and whatever brand of gaming console Hell has. Because listen, sometimes you need to turn off your brain and smash things as a tiny Lego man.
About 40 minutes later, Garrett turns up at their door with a duffel bag and two dogs, Angel (aussie shepherd) and Max (black Frenchie). They are both very happy to see the two residents, though Max is significantly less loud about it.]
[It's another long painful hobble to that door but he finds, when he greets Hawke and his dogs there, he's actually kind of happy at the thought of company. It's been so quiet here.]
Hey. Come on in. Make yourself at home. These two as well.
[Nekane, meanwhile, is still on the couch. They've changed back into their suit but they're still buried under what seems to be as many blankets as they can fit onto said couch and damned if there's really no room because of their wings.
Fluffy blankets are more important.
They offer a wave over the couch when they hear Garrett's voice though.]
[Garrett enters and greets Héctor with a hug that stops just before there's time for it to start getting Feels. It's a bit more than he can handle and besides, he'd wager that Héctor's had more than enough feelings lately than he goddamn needs. Max and Angel deliver joyful greetings as well, with Angel insistently shoving her entire snoot into Héctor's hand and Max running over to jump on Nekane and curl up in their nest.]
Hello. I come bearings gifts, most of which can be consumed!
[Then he looks around at the situation- specifically at Nekane and the couch. Hm.]
[It takes him by surprise, that hug. But hell if he isn't hugging back tight, a little desperate because he hasn't been able to get anything quite so grounding since he realized Nekane was lost and each little support he had snapped like so many little strings.
It feels like it ends too quick, but it's probably for the best. He doesn't need to embarrass himself weeping and Nekane doesn't need to see that and feel guilty either.
He smiles, grateful, then gives his attention to angel for a good moment, uttering praises in Spanish as he runs his hands over her. He notices the smaller dog nestled with Nekane too.]
[There's a not-so quiet "Oof!" as Max greets Nekane. But despite that they do move a little so the dog can curl up comfortably...so long as he doesn't try chewing on their wings.]
Is it the same shit you're feeding your dogs, Hawke? 'Cuz I don't think I'll be able to pick you up after this, Héctor.
[They can't anyway, not without magic. But they're kidding. Nekane hauls themself up so they can see what Garrett's brought along with him.]
More or less. [Garrett leans in to answer Héctor quietly.] It's a good thing this didn't happen sooner.
[When he was still living depressed in his (their) house, drinking himself stupid and letting Dodger use him as an emotional-crutch-slash-sex-toy. Garrett straightens up and looks over at Nekane before brightening determinedly and going to the living room to show off.]
Alright, I've got drinkables [A bottle of vodka he produces just long enough to show Nekane before quickly shoving deep into the bag again], smokables [baggies of loose tobacco and marijuana, as well as his magnificent long pipe that looks more at home in Lord of the Rings than a stoner's living room], snacks, and video games.
[The last one he sets the bag down for, producing a console - the main reason he needed a duffel - and two controllers, as well as a random handful of boxes that he did not look at whatsoever before leaving.
also, in the process of digging for the second controller, he ends up tossing an apple at Héctor. think fast, lad.]
[There's a flicker of worry in his face. He reaches out to touch Hawke's arm. But, for the sake of not digging into all of their wounds, he leaves it alone. He can ask later.
For now, Garrett busies himself unveiling his bag of gifts. He's a little overwhelmed again by gratitude.]
Dios, Garrett, I owe--
[He jumps as the apple is tossed. It's a close thing, with some scrambling involved, but he manages to catch the fruit. He blinks at it, digs his nail into the skin of it to see it push up its perfectly normal juices, then turns his gaze back up.]
Thank you.
[He moves along with Angel, walking to settle down on the floor, by the couch, leaning close to Nekane without touching and also letting his own wings splay out behind him. He starts picking at the apple and taking bites.]
[Vodka, smokes and video games. They can't say how up they will be for something big but it'll hopefully not turn out how badly Dodger's birthday party did.
Although a start would be to not think of the asshole. Nekane snickers when Héctor nearly drops the tossed apple and sits up properly so Garrett can sit down on the couch.]
[Since honestly he didn't look at what he was grabbing. Garrett lays the few boxes he grabbed out on the table.]
Mario something or other, a fighting game with a lot of titty armor and ripping out spines, this one where you smash things as tiny Lego people- oh, I grabbed two of those. [Garrett turns the last box over in his hands, only for his eyes to widen in surprise.] What the hell?
[Lego Kirkwall. The box has a figure on it that looks unnervingly like a Lego version of Garrett, complete with beard and greatsword, as well as a Lego dog (that suspiciously resembles Ox), and a group of Lego people including the extremely distinctive (and very much currently in Hell) Fenris.]
I got a few new games the other week but didn't look at them. Maker's balls...
[He listens vaguely, picking at his apple and throwing bewildered looks over words like "titty armor". But, that aside, he's content staying out of it. He reaches a free hand out to run over Angel's fur and reflects idly, with the dog here, that makes three very poor "angels" in a row.]
You've got to watch what you barter for, Garrett. You never the things they pull in this place. I hope you didn't barter away anything good.
[Nekane, meanwhile, is paying a bit more attention to this. They weren't a huge fan of games but played them with Amets now and then back home. It's nostalgic.
But they do raise an eyebrow at his reaction to some of them.]
You alright there, Garrett?
[Did the demons slip some weird shit along with whatever they traded with him?]
[Garrett flips the box around and holds it up, showing off the cover.]
This is my city- these are little Lego versions of my friends.
[He seems to come to a decision while still speaking, and in the middle of his sentence his hands move almost without his consent to take the disc out of the box and toss the box over at Nekane.]
I have to play it. I have to.
[This is the weirdest and greatest thing to ever happen, and he's already setting up the console so he can put the game in.]
There's already a book about me at home, I suppose a video game with tiny violent toy people makes just as much sense.
[A video game version of yourself. Of the story that you've created simply by living your life. Nekane wonders if this would let them explore the things that Garrett didn't do by the time he came to Hell.
They catch the box and crack a bit of a smile.]
Shit never makes sense here, so fuck it. I'm down.
[And it's a pretty easy thing to get into once he sets up the game. Although they're undeciding if Lego violence is better or worst in the way a B-horror movie is.]

[ because why the fuck not. ]
Would you like courier service?

It's not about knowing, Garrett. I don't panic that friends will murder me because I'm thinking straight. It's not personal, I promise.
Anyway. Nekane said yes. We'll both be better for the company, I think.
