Yeah! It was a trick I picked up on the run from the cops one time. It comes in handy. Like one time my arm got shattered and I had to wait a week for these guys to heal it, but obviously I couldn't stay a skeleton so I went partial while they worked on it. Which, on that note, unless you're capable of actually crushing or shattering it, should be fine.

[He brings his power to work, focusing it until the flesh draws back from his arm, the rest of him whole. He lifts it for Tobias to see before going to that desk. He pulks out a glove (previously snatched from the list and found by Teto), hiding skeletal fingers, then pulls his sleeve back down to hide the rest.]

I don't do it often because it takes a continuous focus, but it's nothing painful. Maybe someday it'll be like that for you! You can't do it now but you never know. There was plenty I couldn't do at first.

... It would be pretty funny too.

[He hopes he's not capable of crushing a grown man's bones, the way he can much smaller skulls, because here goes nothing. Fluttering from his branch to Héctor's arm and grasping as gently as he can, he perches on the gloved hand. He's all fluff and feathers.]

< Maybe, with a lot more practice. You haven't seen me do it, it's pretty bizarre. I can't choose which changes come first. It's different every time. All good? >

[Tobias lands and his arm takes the weight but doesn't fall nor crack. He grins wider, entirely too pleased with himself. This is cool. He feels super cool.]

Definitely. I feel like some kind of wise warrior king or something.

[He is not even close to any of those things.

He starts out the door. It's probably easier for Tobias this way than trying to fly inside, he thinks.]

I gotta admit, I'm a little morbidly curious about how your transformation looks, but you've said looking might be a bad idea a few times. Must have taken you by surprise the first time it happened.

< It wasn't one of my best days. But it didn't take me long to start having fun with it... like the whole dragonfly thing. They don't seem impressive, until you are one. It's very cool. >

[He'd been terrified at first. He'd wanted himself, everything, to go back to normal. But a bunch of bones is who he is now.]

But I could see that with the dragonflies too, actually. I've always thought they were pretty fast as they are. Those guys and hummingbirds. I imagine being a hummingbird would feel like teleporting.

[Such a tiny and fast target, but he didn't have anything better to do! Have to entertain yourself somehow.]

Really? I don't know, Toby, I've caught a dragonfly but I've definitely never caught a hummingbird before.

[He doesn't blame chasing one for three days though. He'd do it.

He takes them both across the yard, to the main building.]

[He says, as if he has. A couple times he comes close to unfolding his wings, not used to balancing on a person's hand, but that's all.]

Okay, no, but it's easier to catch a dragonfly without crushing it than a hummingbird.

[For every time that Tobias wavers he tries to steady himself more.]

Me!? None! My daughter would never forgive me! I should be asking you!

< I don't... think so. I don't remember going after a hummingbird. >

[Other small cute critters? Of course. He is a predator.]

That proves it then! Hummingbirds are harder to catch!

[The brief tour outside is over. He takes them back in and to the lost and found, a big, cavernous wooden bin. He lowers Tobias a bit so he can hop off and grip the bins edge.]

< I'm not sure you understand the whole idea of proof. >

[He's teasing. Badly. And yes, hopping off the guy's arm to dig his talons into the wood instead, peering at the box of stuff. Free stuff. Nice...]

It's proof of elimination. Or something.

[His words go muffled as he simply tips right in.]

I see... a jacket... a sock... a shoe for the other foot... pudding cup...

[Oh, wonderful, isn't the pudding going to rot in there.

Well, it's not his problem.

He can see a bit of what looks like feathers on a t-shirt in there...]

< Look to the left, there's a shirt. >

[He pulls the shirt free and lifts a brow at it.]

I am a lie. What the heck does that mean?

[He turns it to display for Tobias.]

< Uh... okay, didn't expect that. >

[He stares into the pigeon's face for a good thirty seconds, doomed to always be expressionless. (Or furiously glaring, depending on how one interprets it.)]

< ...I don't get it either. Set it aside and we can look for something better? >

Something really weird happened to everyone's sense of humor in the last decade. This, that... song thing...

[He shakes his head and digs some more.]

Some pants here. Little bit of ripping but it's no where embarrassing... ah! How about this!

[He holds it up.]

Oh just some-- this kid, Peter, used to go here but lives at my place in Santa Cecilia now. He said something like, "that's so sad, better play Despacito". Next thing I know I'm listening to some kind of wierd lyrical Adult Movie made into song. That only I can understand by the way with the spanish. I had to break it to him why some wouldn't appreciate the joke.

[All the while he gathers up all they have. Just sling that over his shoulder and offer his arm.]

We'll just stay in the dorm for now so you don't have to worry about socks or shoes. Can just practice walking.

< Weird. It's probably a movie quote. It always is something like that when I look up a 'joke' that makes no sense. >

[He's doing this. He's really going to become human again. Give up his wings and his eyesight, and possibly solidify the idea that he is just a kid in Héctor's mind, if it isn't already. His human form doesn't look old enough to drive and there's nothing he can do about it.

Too late to back out now. Back to his ride he goes.]

< Right. No wandering around until I know I'm not going to give anyone the creeps. >

[At that, he laughs. He starts onward.]

You're at Daybreak, Toby. If you're not giving someone the creeps you're probably hiding something. Wander if you like. I just want to make sure you don't fall and hurt yourself or something.

< Nah, I won't. Besides, it'll go away if I do, once I change back. Like a magical reset button. >

[Which he'd share if he could. Poor frail man, he could use it.]

Pretty convenient! I can do that with most of the flesh wound stuff. Definitely helps a lot.

[Just not his bones. Oh well. There were healers for that.

He takes them back to their room, a quick and easy enough journey, but doesn't bring Tobias to the branch. Instead, he opens up the bathroom, letting Tobias hop onto the counter and then setting the clothes down. He locks the door on the other side, just in case.]
